Education and awareness — not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
The information provided by Stepin Women Foundation is for educational and awareness purposes only and does not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
What this means
Everything published on this website — including the Cancer Education Centre, articles, campaign material and answers given over WhatsApp — is general health information. It is written for a general audience in Ghana and cannot take account of your individual circumstances, history, medications or risk.
Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional with any questions you may have about a medical condition or symptom. Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you have read on this website.
Stepin does not diagnose or treat
Stepin Women Foundation is not a hospital, clinic or medical practice. We do not diagnose conditions, examine patients, interpret test results, prescribe or recommend treatment, or provide second opinions. Diagnosis and treatment are provided by qualified healthcare professionals and healthcare institutions.
Our staff, volunteers and Community Champions are instructed never to give medical advice or a diagnosis, whatever their own professional background may be. If one of our team has told you something that reads as clinical advice, please tell us.
Symptoms
Where this website describes symptoms, it does so to help you recognise changes worth checking. A symptom listed on this website does not mean you have cancer. Almost every symptom we describe is far more commonly caused by something else. What matters is persistence and change — and the appropriate response is always to see a qualified healthcare professional, not to draw a conclusion from a webpage.
In an emergency
Stepin is not an emergency service and does not monitor its channels around the clock. If you are seriously unwell, bleeding heavily, struggling to breathe or in severe pain, go to the nearest hospital or health facility immediately.
Sources and currency of information
Our health content is prepared using World Health Organization guidance, IARC and Ghana Health Service data, and peer-reviewed research, with sources listed on each page. Medical knowledge changes. Each page carries the date it was prepared and the date it is scheduled for review. Content that has not yet been reviewed by a clinician on our Medical & Health Advisory Council says so openly.
If you believe something on this website is inaccurate or out of date, please tell us. We would rather be corrected than be wrong.
External links
We link to external sources so you can check what we have written. Stepin is not responsible for the content of external websites, and a link does not imply endorsement of everything that organisation publishes.
Messages sent to Stepin
Please do not send personal medical details, test results, scans or diagnostic information over WhatsApp, email or social media. These are not secure or confidential medical channels. General questions are welcome; clinical detail belongs with a qualified healthcare professional.
